Fort Nelson transport driver ticketed nearly $400 for unsafe transportation

FORT NELSON, B.C. — A transport truck driver in Fort Nelson has received nearly $400 in fines for allegedly transporting goods in a dangerous manner. 

According to BC Highway Patrol, one of its officers pulled over a transport truck towing a shipping container on July 7th near the Fort Nelson weigh station on Highway 97. 

The officer then brought the truck back to the weigh station for inspection. 

“A roadside inspection found that the ‘sea can’ full of heavy furniture was not properly secured to the trailer,” alleged Corporal Michael McLaughlin, media relations officer with the BC Highway Patrol.

The truck was issued a notice and removed from the road for a commercial vehicle inspection.

“The trailer was also overweight, two trailer tires were bald and deformed and the exhaust stacks on the truck were not heat-shielded to prevent a person from getting burned,” said McLaughlin.

The driver received three tickets:

-$109 for operating a vehicle with a gross weight exceeding the manufacturer’s weight rating.

– $173 for operating a non-commercial vehicle with insecure cargo.

-$109 for having an exhaust system located where a person may be burned.

The driver also had to pay for the tow, inspection and repairs. 

“Details matter when it comes to road safety,” said McLaughlin. 

“Keep your loads and vehicles safe and you will avoid tragedy, along with unwanted attention from BC Highway Patrol.”
