FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Seniors Hall has received more than $40,000 for rooftop repairs.

On July 18th, the North Peace Community Foundation announced it had awarded a $40,250 grant for roof repairs at the Fort St. John Seniors Hall.

“It was a wonderful surprise, totally appreciated,” said Deb Vandal, secretary of the Fort St. John Senior Citizens’ Association.

Susan Adams, executive director of the North Peace Community Foundation, said it is important for the hall to be kept in good condition.

“It’s a very, very important community building [and] many of our region’s seniors participate in activities at the seniors’ hall,” said Adams.

“There are fundraisers that are held in their hall, as well as personal events, weddings and conventions … It’s a really beautiful purpose-made space for the community.”

According to its website, the North Peace Community Foundation donates and encourages a charitable spirit in the North Peace region by connecting donors to charitable causes.

The grant was made possible through the North Peace Savings Community Legacy Fund and the BC Prosperity Fund.

Vandal said the repairs were desperately needed after extensive damage to its administrative offices was discovered earlier this year.

“We ended up having a fairly major leak in the office in January,” Vandal explained.

“We’re deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to these funds and made this possible.”
