LANGLEY — Police in Metro Vancouver say a woman was taken to hospital suffering from “severe burns” after being exposed to an “unknown substance” in a targeted assault.

A statement issued by Langley RCMP says officers responded to a report of woman in distress along a stretch of the Fraser Highway lined with businesses near the city’s downtown area at about 6:35 p.m. on Saturday.

Sgt. Zynal Sharoom says officers found the 33-year-old woman suffering from “serious burns consistent with an intentional act.”

The Mounties say they believe the victim was deliberately exposed to the substance and the attack does not appear to have been random.

They’re urging anyone who may have information to contact them.

RCMP say they are particularly interested in anyone who was in the area or may have dash camera footage from that time.
