Aspiring Fort St. John teacher receives scholarship for education

A Fort St. John single parent studying at Northern Lights College to become a teacher has received a scholarship from the Beedie Luminaries Foundation.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A local resident has received a scholarship for single parents. 

Kelly Hanson, a single mother who works full time in School District 60, has received a four-year $44,000 scholarship from the Beedie Luminaries Foundation, a non-profit society offering financial support for students.

Hanson told Energeticcity.ca she is using the funds to complete her education at Northern Lights College and become a teacher.

The scholarship, originating from the Spark stream of Luminaries, is specifically for single parents.

Hanson was one of 280 students across the province to receive funding from Beedie Luminaries in 2025.
