FORT NELSON, B.C. — A nearly 2,000-hectare wildfire in the Fort Nelson region is now ‘being held,’ according to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).
The latest update on the BCWS website shows the Kimea Creek wildfire has had its designation changed, meaning it’s no longer ‘out of control.’
Its new designation means it’s not expected to expand beyond its current perimeter.
The blaze – an overwintering fire that initially ignited during a past wildfire season – was reportedly discovered on May 27th.
In the time since its discovery, it burned more than 1,700 hectares while it was ‘out of control,’ although no evacuation orders or alerts have been issued as a result of the fire. It’s currently listed as being 1,762 hectares.
The news comes after several other wildfires within the Fort Nelson zone had their designations changed since they’re also no longer expected to expand beyond their current boundaries.
Energeticcity.ca will share more information on these wildfires as it becomes available.
