FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — There is a “sombre” mood at a Fort St. John church after a recent death in its parking lot which police are investigating as a homicide.

That’s what Pastor Dan MacGillivray of the Fort St. John Alliance Church said in a public update on Facebook on Wednesday, June 25th after a recent death in the building’s parking lot.

The Fort St. John RCMP were called to the 9900-block of 99th Avenue at approximately 6:42 p.m. on June 24th, where one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crime Unit is leading the investigation, with assistance from the North District Major Crime Unit.

In the update, MacGillivray said the church is in a “sombre” mood, but staff are doing well.

“It has an impact on us here and ultimately impacts how we care for those outside our walls right now,” said MacGillivray.

MacGillivray asks the public to pray for those suffering in hardship and trauma amid the tragedy.

“In a season in which Jesus is inviting us to pray all the more … that in the midst of such a tragic thing, Jesus’ love and peace would be felt in a real way to those outside our walls and within,” said the pastor.

MacGillivray also said if anyone needs to come to the church for any reason, they should call first to see what time would be best.

Anyone with information or dash camera footage from the area around the time of the incident is asked to contact the Fort St. John RCMP at 250-787-8140.
