UPDATE: RCMP investigating homicide near Fort St. John Salvation Army

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John RCMP is investigating a fatal assault that occurred Tuesday evening in the city’s downtown area.

Police were called to the 9900-block of 99 Avenue at approximately 6:42 p.m. on June 24 following a report of an assault. When officers arrived at the scene, they located one individual who was unresponsive.

Despite life-saving efforts by emergency responders, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crime Unit is leading the investigation, with assistance from the North District Major Crime Unit.

Police say the area around the scene will remain cordoned off for an extended period as investigators continue to gather evidence. As the investigation is still in its early stages, no further details have been released.

Anyone with information or dash camera footage from the area around the time of the incident is asked to contact the Fort St. John RCMP at 250-787-8140.
