‘High streamflow advisory’: Minor flooding in low-lying ground possible as river water levels rise

The Peace River region continues to be under a ‘high streamflow advisory’ due to the cool and rainy weather expected on June 22nd.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Peace River region continues to be under a ‘high streamflow advisory’ due to the cool and rainy weather.

For the second weekend in a row, the Peace River region is under a high streamflow advisory. 

This means river water levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly and although no major flooding is forecast, there may be minor flooding in low-lying areas.

Areas impacted by the advisory include Hudson’s Hope, Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and the surrounding areas.

Issued by the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship on June 20th, the advisory comes ahead of an “unsettled low pressure system” approaching the region from Alberta on June 22nd. 

The rain from the system is expected to impact river conditions.
