FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A date to reopen the Boundary Lake Water Station has been set for about 10 months after it closed.

The water station closed indefinitely on August 12th, 2024 after an inspection revealed water quality concerns.

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) announced on June 20th that the station will reopen on June 30th.

“The new treatment system is delivered and our crews have removed the contaminated equipment,” said the PRRD.

It said the station will reopen after the district finishes installing and testing the new equipment and water sampling.

Contaminated equipment was removed from the station on June 18th.

The PRRD said the new water treatment equipment is currently being installed and is expected to be completed by June 23rd.

After the installation, equipment testing will be done from June 24th to June 26th.

Water sampling for public safety and compliance will then be completed on June 27th, before it reopens on June 30th.

The closure was caused by a chemical leaking from an unauthorized truck that tried to take water from a connection point at the facility without permission, causing an equipment outage that stopped the water flow.

In October, the PRRD said more damage was discovered after initial repairs were completed.

The station is located at 1105 Cecil Lake Road in Electoral Area B.
