Reginald Frederick Flavelle
August 20th, 1948 – June 17th, 2025
Our Guardian Gained his wings.
It is with sadness that we announce that Reginald Fredrick Flavelle gained his wings peacefully at home, in Grande Prairie, AB., on June 17th, 2025.
Reg, as he was more commonly known, was born August 20th, 1948, to Frederick John Flavelle ✝️ and Edna May Norman ✝️at the original Fort St. John Hospital in B.C. He grew up with four younger siblings, Rod (Paulette), Ray ✝️ (Ledwina), Carrie (Dave) and Cathy (Andrew). The family remained in Fort St. John throughout his school-age years. This is also where he found his passion for driving. Reg started driving to make deliveries at the age of 15 for Lazell trucking, under the watchful eye of his dad. He continued to drive for the next 58 years, accident free, having driven so many miles in a truck to circumnavigate the earth multiple times. This accomplishment also awarded him the title of Road Knight by the AMTA, a title he held very proudly.
The family moved to Dawson Creek B.C. around 1967, and this is where he met Marilyn and became a father for the first time to Anna. His son Richard (Marina) would join the family the following year with Bonnie.
Reg met Gayle Marion Schultz in 1978 and were married soon thereafter. They continued to grow their family with Travis, in Fort St. John before they moved south to Surrey, B.C. where they added Jacey (Brooks) and Cole to complete their biological family. They returned back to Fort St. John in 1994 and not long after gained their ‘adopted’ daughter Toni. After 23 years together, Gayle lost her battle with cancer in April 2003.
After the sudden loss of Gayle, Reg found comfort in a close family friend, brought together by their daughters, Kay, who had also lost her partner the year before.
Reg married Kay (Kathrine) Heraid, on September 3rd, 2003, in an intimate outdoor ceremony in Fort St. John, B.C. With this union, Reg gained four more daughters – Laura (Bob), Shana, Candi (James) and Shelly. Rounding off their total at 10!
Reg loved babies, and with 10 children, you know there are babies galore. Eighteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with two more on the way, as well as numerous ‘adopted’ grandchildren, and he always made time for those baby snuggles. He was a grandpa and BeePaw to all!
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 21st, 2025, at 4 pm. Services will be held at Bear Creek Funeral Home, 11802 99 Avenue, in Grande Prairie, AB., T8W 0C7.
