Area restriction in place for Kiskatinaw River wildfire

The BC Wildfire Service has announced an area restriction for a region near the Kiskatinaw River wildfire.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Restrictions have been placed on an area near Dawson Creek due to ongoing wildfire suppression efforts.

In a June 17th press release, the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) announced an area restriction for the Kiskatinaw River wildfire.

Starting on June 18th at 7 a.m., nobody will be allowed to enter Crown land within the geographical boundaries specified by BCWS until October 15th or until the order is formally rescinded.

“The size of the area restriction reflects the continued need to protect the public in areas where there are ongoing fire suppression activities and hazardous fire behaviour conditions,” BCWS stated. 

The restriction will be in place from June 18th to October 15th, unless it is rescinded. (BC Wildfire Service)

Individuals must not remain in or enter restricted areas “without prior written authorization.”

The only individuals exempt from this are those travelling to or from their residence, using a highway, acting in an official capacity and entering for an approved purpose such as wildfire suppression.

Anyone found in the restricted region not for one of these reasons may face a violation ticket of $1,150.

As of June 17th, the Kiskatinaw River wildfire has burned 26,623 hectares.
