Grande Prairie relaxes evacuation alerts and orders for Kiskatinaw River fire

The County of Grande Prairie has changed the boundaries of its evacuation alert and order for the Kiskatinaw River wildfire.

GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALTA. — Some Alberta residents that had to evacuate due to a B.C. wildfire recently can now return home.

The County of Grande Prairie announced on Wednesday, June 11th that the boundaries of its evacuation alert and order for the Kiskatinaw River wildfire have been changed.

The fire has led to several evacuation alerts and orders in the days since its discovery, including several from the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) on the western side of the provincial border.

The following changes have come into effect in the County of Grande Prairie:

  • Everyone north of Township Road 700 to 710 can return home. Everyone north of Township Road 740 to Highway 43, west of the B.C./AB border to Range Road 130 can return home. These areas remain on evacuation alert.  
  • The evacuation alert remains in effect for everyone north of Township Road 710 to 740, east of Range Road 130 to 124.  
  • The evacuation alert is outlined in the yellow area of the attached map. Residents in areas under an evacuation alert should be prepared to leave with 30 minutes’ notice. 
  • The evacuation order remains in effect for everyone north of Township Road 710 to 740, east of the British Columbia/ Alberta border to Range Road 130. The evacuation order is outlined in the red area of the attached map. 

County residents are also urged to watch for updates on the fire via the BC Wildfire Service website, and to monitor road conditions on DriveBC.
