FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Peace region residents can expect to see an increase in heavy vehicles moving through the area in the coming days.

B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Transit has announced that as of noon on Wednesday, June 4th, all seasonal load restrictions on provincial highways and side roads within the North and South Peace have been lifted.

The restrictions were put into place earlier in the year in an effort to protect local roads from significant wear and tear in the transition from winter to spring. In April, they were expanded further, from only being in effect for a few hours each day to being active at all times.

Year-round load restrictions will remain in place. In the North Peace, that means vehicles moving along the stretch of Old Fort Road 148 from Howe Pit to the Old Fort Loop 616B will still be limited to 50 per cent of their legal axle loading capacity at all times.

However, that is the only year-round restriction in the North Peace, and no such restrictions are in effect in the South Peace.
