FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The regional board is supporting a multi-million dollar funding application for a 100-acre housing project in Kelly Lake.

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) board of directors reviewed a letter from the Metis Nation British Columbia about a project in Kelly Lake during the May 22nd board meeting.

According to the letter, the nation is submitting an application to the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund to support a housing and infrastructure project on a 100-acre property in Kelly Lake, south of Dawson Creek.

The Nation’s plans also include rezoning and water system designs to support “future multi-unit housing development,” as the community of Kelly Lake does not currently have public water service.

In total, the Nation is applying for approximately $6.5 million, with a 50 per cent contingency of $3.2 million, and requested a letter of support for the application from the PRRD directors.

In their discussions, the directors acknowledged the Kelly Lake community was growing and would need upgraded sewer and water services as need continued to rise, voting to support the application with a letter of support.
