FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A Fort St. John residents in the running in a tattoo contest are expected to advance to the next round for a chance at a $25,000 prize.

Kyle Monteith entered the contest with tattoos that honour his father, who passed away due to substance abuse in 2016.

“For me, it’s just simply trying to connect to him through having something that I remember seeing on him, I can look at my own hands as I grow as an adult and see his same hands,” said Monteith.

The winner will receive $25,000, get a tattoo session with Inked Originals tattoo artist Bang Bang and be featured in Inked magazine.

If he manages to win, Monteith told Energeticcity.ca he is unsure if he would take advantage of the new tattoo prize. However, he said he would use the money to help those struggling with substance abuse.

Another Fort St. John contestant, Mitch Shyanne, is in first place in another group in the Inked Originals contest. He says he would use the funds to invest in his gym brand business.

The voting for the top 15 ends on Thursday, May 22nd, at 7 p.m. and can be found here
