Fish Creek Community Forest now fully open after wildfire declared ‘out’

The City of Fort St. John announced on May 12th that the Fish Creek Community Forest trails are now fully open to the public.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — All the trails in Fish Creek Community Forest are now fully open to the public after clean-up from the recent wildfire has been completed. 

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) first reported the fire on May 1st.

After burning 56 hectares of land north of the city, BCWS declared the fire “out” on May 9th.

The City of Fort St. John announced the reopening on May 12th, saying fire crews have completed their wildfire assessments and clean-up.

“The forest is still recovering, be aware of your surroundings and give wildlife plenty of space,” said the city.

Everyone is advised to stay on the marked trails and avoid any areas impacted by the wildfire.

Dogs are required to be on a leash at all times and garbage should be put into trash cans. 

The city partially reopened the park last week, with the Silviculture and Anatomy trails in Fish Creek Community Forest behind Northern Lights College becoming available to the public.
