Fish Creek Community Forest trails partially reopened

The Fish Creek Community Forest trails partially reopened on May 9th now the recent wildfire has been extinguished.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Some of the Fish Creek forest trails have reopened now the wildfire that burned through the area has been extinguished.  

The City of Fort St. John announced on May 9th that the Silviculture and Anatomy trails in Fish Creek Community Forest behind Northern Lights College are open, but the multi-purpose trail running along the golf course will remain closed until further notice. 

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said on May 9th the blaze is officially “out” and will not spread.

Dangerous tree and trail assessments and clean-up are currently being done by fire crews. 

The public is asked to avoid the area as this work is being done.

On May 8th, the city released preliminary investigation findings, which said the fire does not seem to have been “deliberately set.”

The fire, which burned 56 hectares of land, was first reported by the BCWS on May 1st in the forest north of Fort St. John, prompting tactical evacuations of the area.

The city attached a map outlining the areas open and to avoid.
