BCWS assesses overwintering wildfire activity in Fort Nelson area
The BC Wildfire Service is assessing multiple reports of overwintering wildfire activity in Fort Nelson and Highway 77.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is conducting suppression efforts and assessments on overwintering wildfire activity in the Fort Nelson area.
In a May 3rd Facebook post, BCWS said the activity is due to hot and dry weather conditions making overwintering wildfires more active.
This includes a 0.5-hectare wildfire northwest of the Fort Nelson river, listed as ‘out of control.’

The service said the fire is an overwintering blaze from the previous year but appears as a new incident on its website due to becoming more active.
“Response officers are assessing whether the fire will stay within last year’s burn area or could spread further,” said the wildfire service.
“Crews and resources are prepared to respond if the wildfire grows beyond those boundaries.”
Currently, there are 25 BCWS personnel and a helicopter on site.
