Police officers, a bulldozer and a helicopter are also said to be on scene.

According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), a crew and a response officer have been deployed to ensure the blaze doesn’t spread beyond its current perimeter.

In a BCWS update on April 25th, the fire is listed as “out of control” and four hectares in size.

Pedro Roldan-Delgado, information officer with the Prince George Fire Centre, says there is currently no immediate danger to the Wonowon community and BCWS crews arrived on scene to prevent a further spread of the blaze.

“Staff are on site today and continuing fire suppression to make sure it doesn’t spread further into the trees,” says Roldan-Delgado.

The suspected cause of the blaze is human activity.

Roldan-Delgado is advising the public that weather conditions may increase the risk of more wildfires over the weekend.

“With the warmer temperatures coming and some wind activity expected throughout the weekend, we may have potential for more fires popping up,” Roldan-Delgado explained.

He advised campers to take precautions when lighting campfires.

“If [you are] going to be lighting a campfire, do not light if it’s windy,” Roldan-Delgado concludes.

Energeticcity.ca will update this story as more information becomes available.
