Impaired driver in B.C. going double the limit and on his way to get child: police

NANAIMO — A man from Nanaimo, B.C., faces a driving suspension, a speeding ticket and allegations of impaired driving for passing an unmarked police vehicle going 120 kilometres an hour over the posted limit.

A statement from BC Highway Patrol says the man was pulled over at 11 a.m. on April 14 in the city for going at a speed of 210 km/h.

Police say he told them he was going to pick up his child.

Insp. Adam Tallboy with BC Highway Patrol says the driver gave two breath samples, both of which he failed.

The 31-year-old man was handed a 90-day roadside suspension and a $483 speeding ticket. The car was towed and impounded for 30 days at the owner’s expense.

Tallboy says anyone who makes the choice to drive at extreme speeds while they are impaired is a danger to everyone who uses the road.
