DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Just over a month after Fort St. John’s annual fundraising art auction, preparations are now underway for a similar event in Dawson Creek.

Tickets are now on sale for the 42nd annual South Peace Art Society auction, scheduled for May 24th at Bear Mountain Ski Hill in Dawson Creek.

The event will feature an “enchanted forest” theme, similar to the “steampunk” theme of the 39th annual Fort St. John art auction held at the Northern Grand Hotel on March 8th.

“Step into a world of wonder, and enjoy an enchanting evening filled with live music, delicious food and, of course, stunning artwork,” the South Peace auction’s Eventbrite page reads.

“Immerse yourself in the magic of creativity as you bid on incredible pieces from talented artists, with all proceeds supporting the Dawson Creek Art Gallery programming.”

This comes after the success of the Fort St. John auction, organized by the Flying Colours Artists’ Association.

Local artist Sandy Troudt, who helped organize the March event, says it ultimately brought in more than $30,000.

The majority of the money went towards the association’s goal of establishing a creative hub for artists in the community.

“Everything sold really well,” Troudt explained. “Probably above what we would say [was] ‘fair market value.’ So, it was quite successful.”

Tickets to the Dawson Creek event cost $85 and are available via Eventbrite

Doors will open at the ski hill at 6:00 p.m., with dinner – courtesy of local catering business Meals by Tiia – served at 7:00 p.m. and the auction starting at 8:00.
