Firefighters tackle four-hectare wildfire ’caused by humans’

The BC Wildfire Service discovered the four-hectare blaze west of Dawson Creek at around 1 p.m. on April 7th.

Update: BCWS has redesignated this fire as “under control.”

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Firefighters are aware of a wildfire west of Dawson Creek labelled “out of control”. 

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) discovered the four-hectare blaze 0.2km east of Scott Lake at around 1 p.m. on April 7th, and suspects it was started by humans.

There are currently 10 BCWS firefighters enroute to tackle the blaze.

The fire is currently designated as “out of control”, which means it is “spreading or it is anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter, or control line.”

However, there are currently no restrictions in the area.

This comes as B.C. Wildfire Service saw a record number of volunteer applications for the 2025 season.
