The win evened their record at one win and one loss in the tournament, following their opening game loss against the hosts.

Currently, the Huskies are in a three-way tie for second position at the tournament with three points, trailing Sylvan Lake who lead with five.

Huskies head coach Todd Alexander said the victory stemmed from their execution, although he did admit there were “pockets” the team didn’t like at junctures in the contest.

“Overall, our structure held in there,” said Alexander. “We buried some goals today too. I like the fact we went to the net and made better plays with the puck offensively.”

The Strike Group North West Junior Hockey League (NWJHL) champs next face the North Eastern Alberta Junior ‘B’ Hockey League (NEAHL) champions, the Wainwright Bisons, on Friday, April 4th at noon.

The Bisons have been NEAHL champions the past four full seasons.

“We’ve got to find our game,” said Alexander. “[Just] play our game to the best of our ability.  They have been a good hockey club for a number of years.

“Both clubs are going to need a win, so we just got to take care of business.”

More details about the Hockey Alberta Provincials is available on the event’s website.
