FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — As a cyber incident continues to impact the city of Fort St. John, staff members have created a more detailed way for residents to see what services are impacted.

The incident began on Tuesday, February 25th, with city staff saying it had “severely” impacted some services.

Since then, Mayor Lilia Hansen provided a statement on Wednesday saying service capacity was extremely limited despite some facilities remaining open, and communications manager Ryan Harvey confirmed the city’s internal network had been cut off from the rest of the internet as a safety precaution.

According to the latest update posted to the city’s Facebook page at 6:08 p.m. on Thursday, February 27th, workers are still in the process of identifying “the extent of this week’s cyber incident.”

“We are slowly restoring services with critical and customer-facing infrastructure being prioritized,” the post reads, emphasizing that recreational facilities remain open, with some limitations in terms of facility bookings and activity registration.

The post also contains a link to a “notification centre” on the City of Fort St. John website, with a detailed breakdown of what services are impacted and how.

Energeticcity.ca contacted Ryan Harvey and requested details about the nature of the cyber incident, but the city has yet to confirm any additional information.
