FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A Fort St. John woman is alerting the public of what she believes to be a late-night attempted theft of her vehicle.

Candace Shaver, the vehicle owner, recorded an incident on a security camera where an individual approached her car and tried to open the doors just after midnight on February 25th.

Shaver believes this to be a late-night attempted car theft.

The footage was captured by a Wyze Cam v3 camera on the property near Duncan Cran Elementary School.

Shaver says she is fine and will continue taking precautions by locking her vehicle doors.

Shaver says her boyfriend was on the porch of the house at the time of the incident; he flashed a light and yelled, causing the person to run off.

“He flashed the flashlight at [the person], he probably thought it was an automatic light at first,” said Shaver.

“He said ‘what are you doing?’ and he ended up running off right after that.”

Shaver says she believes this is not the first time someone has attempted to steal her car, as she experienced a very similar incident last year.

She believes crime in Fort St. John has become worse and encourages more people to get security cameras.

“I feel like more people should have security cameras to prevent people from trying [to steal] knowing that they might actually get caught,” said Shaver.
