FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John is responding to a “cyber incident” that was discovered Tuesday morning.

The City says as soon as the breach was identified, its staff took immediate action, severing system connections to limit unauthorized activity.

A cyber incident response team has been activated and efforts are underway to assess the extent of the impact.

While all city facilities remain open, the incident has severely affected municipal services.

It was initially announced on Facebook at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning as a ‘network outage’ affecting “internet and server access, some phone calls and email sending and receiving”.

Residents experiencing issues are encouraged to report problems by calling (778) 256-0076 or reaching out through the city’s official social media channels.

City officials have assured the public they are committed to transparency and will provide regular updates as more information becomes available.
