Sledder with broken leg saved by North Peace and Tumbler Ridge SAR

Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers from Fort St. John helped save a sledder with a broken leg on February 21st.

TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers from Fort St. John helped save a sledder with a broken leg over the weekend.

According to a Facebook post from North Peace SAR, the team assisted another SAR team based out of Tumbler Ridge with the rescue on Friday, February 21st.

A North Peace SAR member flew with a local helicopter pilot, picking up a Tumbler Ridge SAR member before flying to the person in need in the Wolverine area.

“The subject was picked up and flown to Fort St. John where they were transferred to B.C. Ambulance [Services],” the post reads.

North Peace SAR says the group of sledders made “good and quick” decisions, including turning on their SOS system early so a helicopter could be used, and splinting their friend’s broken leg.

The non-profit is encouraging all backcountry users to carry a means of communication, saying they can be “valuable tools” in the event of an emergency.
