FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Hospitality workers serving crews at natural gas projects in northern B.C. have voted in favour of a strike as they demand better wages, travel pay, improved benefits and more.

The 31 hospitality workers at Kobes Creek Lodge, represented by the union Unite Here Local 40, voted 93.5 per cent in favor of the strike, according to a press release sent out on February 13th.

The workers are employed by Horizon North Camp Services, a division of Dexterra Group. Hospitality workers joined the union in September of 2024, and the press release says they began bargaining a few months later in December.

“I work 12-hour days for 20 days straight, going above and beyond because I’m passionate about my job and the people I serve,” says Miranda Todd, the campsite’s first cook.

Kobes Creek Lodge, located west of Fort St. John, is a temporary living facility for workers in industries like mining.

Energeticcity.ca contacted Horizon North Camp Services and it did not immediately respond to a request for comment. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
