Firefighters tackle 100th Avenue blaze in home above commercial building

Fifteen firefighters rushed to tackle a blaze on 100th Avenue in Fort St. John on February 6th.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fifteen firefighters rushed to tackle a blaze on 100th Avenue in Fort St. John last night.

According to a press release from the city, the local fire department responded to the blaze with five apparatus at roughly 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 6th, after receiving reports of black smoke coming out the window of a second-story residence above a commercial building at 8111 100th Avenue.

“Crews arrived to find a working fire and initiated an aggressive fire attack, deploying hose lines to bring the fire under control,” the press release reads.

The fire was reportedly brought under control at 6:15 p.m, but firefighters stayed at the scene to look for hot spots and make sure it had been fully extinguished.

The person living at the residence wasn’t at home at the time of the incident.

As a precautionary measure, utilities in the residence were reportedly turned off while firefighters worked.

The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation by the Fort St. John RCMP detachment.
