FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A guiding document for the future of the City of Fort St. John is being revised and city staff are looking for residents’ opinions.

The City of Fort St. John has announced several upcoming opportunities for public engagement this week, set to take place throughout the community.

The three events all focus on different aspects of the 2017 Official Community Plan (OCP), which the city is in the process of updating.

The OCP acts as the city’s vision of the future, and is used to guide the municipal government in community growth over the next 15 years or more, with the current OCP from 2017 set to be renewed in 2030.

Feedback will continue to be gathered until the summer of 2025, with a focus on “creating the OCP’s community vision, guiding principles and themes”.

From 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on February 5th, the Fort St. John and District Chamber of Commerce and city staff will be focused on seeking feedback from the business community at the Senior Citizens Association on 100th Street. Registration is free, and recommended.

City staff will also be hosting two open houses at the Kids Arena Fieldhouse on 96th Avenue, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on February 6th and 7th.

Both open houses will be focused on “building our foundation”, and encourage residents to attend and provide their input on the drafted OCP content that will be presented.

The content focuses on topics such as arts and culture, economic development, healthcare, housing and parks and recreation.

More events will be announced in the future, as public feedback continues to shape the contents of the revised OCP.
