FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John announced on Monday, January 20th, that it is in the preliminary stages of a new “potential project” in the downtown core area.
“This potential housing project represents another exciting step in creating an inclusive and vibrant community. This potential project will provide more affordable, accessible housing options that meet the diverse needs of our residents as we continue building a community where everyone can thrive,” says City of Fort St. John Mayor Lilia Hansen.
Working with the Fort St. John Association for Community Living (FSJACL), the project would focus on inclusive and accessible workforce housing.
“We are excited to play a part in addressing the housing needs of our community, specifically affordable and accessible housing, in collaboration with the City and BC Builds,” said FSJACL Chief Executive Officer Jordan Soggie.
The development would include a mix of unit sizes, ranging from one to three bedrooms. Some units would also be subsidized for people with disabilities.
The FSJACL is working with BC Builds to make the project a reality and has posted a Property Opportunity Notice.
According to the city, BC Builds is a housing program delivered by BC Housing to speed up the development of new homes for middle-income working people throughout British Columbia.
