Government of Canada issues recall on certain egg brands
The Government of Canada is warning residents not to consume, serve, or sell certain shell egg brands due to a bacteria outbreak.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Government of Canada is warning residents not to consume, serve, or sell certain shell egg brands due to a bacteria outbreak.
The government issued the recall on January 18th, 2025, due to a Salmonella outbreak.Â

“Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick,” says the government report.Â
The recall mostly affects large-sized white eggs from brands like Golden Valley Eggs, Western Family, and No Name.Â
According to the government, Salmonella is a bacterial infection that is a member of the Enterobacteriaceae family.
“Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections,” said the report. Â

“Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.”
The recalled eggs were distributed in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and possibly other provinces.Â
There have been no reported illnesses related to the products, but anyone who thinks they may have developed a sickness from the contamination is advised to contact their healthcare provider.Â
Anyone who purchased the recalled products is urged to throw them away, or return them to the retailer they purchased them from.
People who are unsure if they have purchased the recalled products are urged to contact their retailer for confirmation.
