Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the region, saying a trough moving across the area is expected to create strong westerly winds.
“Wind gusts of 80 kilometres per hour can be expected this afternoon and evening,” the statement reads, “with a risk of peak winds reaching 90 kilometres per hour.”
According to the agency, winds that strong could toss loose objects, leading to injury or property damage. The wind could also cause power outages and fallen tree branches.
Temperatures are also expected to rise to nearly zero degrees Celsius as the strong winds develop.
