DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The Canadian Cancer Society is looking for volunteers in Dawson Creek to help provide transportation for treatments to cancer patients.
The society is recruiting drivers for its Wheels of Hope program, connecting patients struggling to arrange transportation with local volunteers willing to give them a ride to their treatment at no cost.
“This service helps alleviate a significant barrier to care for patients (and their families) throughout their treatment journey,” explains Canadian Cancer Society Recruitment Coordinator Arbina Rexhaj.

Rexhaj says the Wheels of Hope program is established in many communities across the country and is currently being brought to Dawson Creek.
The program runs Monday through Friday, and mileage reimbursements and tax receipts are available for volunteers.
Prospective volunteers need a valid driver’s license with three or fewer demerits and will be asked to commit to either a half-day or full-day shift each week.
Rexhaj says the society is hoping to recruit five volunteers in Dawson Creek. These volunteers will use their own vehicles to transport patients within a one-hour radius of the Dawson Creek and District Hospital.
