FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) has partnered with a provincial organization to create a new “Regional Economic Development Network” to improve economic collaboration across northern BC.

The network is being run in partnership with the British Columbia Economic Development Association (BCEDA), an organization founded in 1981 to support “economic development professionals in BC.”

According to a press release from NDIT and the BCEDA, the network will offer a platform allowing municipalities, regional communities, and First Nations to collaborate and share resources.

Participation in the initiative will be free for all communities within the NDIT service area.

“Our goal is to ensure every community—regardless of size or budget—has the tools and opportunities to drive economic growth and resilience,” said BCEDA President and CEO Dale Wheeldon. “Through this partnership, we’re not just building a network; we’re building capacity for communities to thrive.”

Felicia Magee, the Economic Development Director for NDIT, says the partnership confirms her organization’s commitment to supporting economic growth across northern BC.

“Through tailored professional development opportunities, resource sharing, and collaborative platforms, we aim to equip economic development professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive,” Magee said.

“By bringing First Nation and non-First Nation communities together, this initiative not only addresses immediate challenges but also lays a strong foundation for sustainable recovery and long-term prosperity.”

A Working Committee made up of representatives from communities participating in the network will guide its development.

Work on the initiative is set to begin this month. NDIT and the BCEDA have formed a three-year agreement to maintain the partnership.
