Energeticcity.ca is issuing a correction about an article featuring MLA Jordan Kealy

The original version of our article indicated that Peace River North MLA Jordan Kealy personally supported the recently reinstated mandate for medical masks in healthcare facilities run by provincial health authorities. This is not the case.

The original version of our article indicated that Peace River North MLA Jordan Kealy personally supported the recently reinstated mandate for medical masks in healthcare facilities run by provincial health authorities. This is not the case. Kealy is not in favour of the mandate.

Kealy believes that mandates are wrong because they don’t fix the underlying issues with our healthcare system.  He believes people should have free choice and be respectful of others as well. If you are sick, there are ways to minimize spreading it, staying home, washing your hands often, covering your face when sneezing and coughing or wearing proper PPE.

Kealy contacted us shortly after the article was published, and we updated the story on our website.

However, portions of the original version remained on social media after we updated the initial story.

Additionally, the original version of the story aired during our Moose FM morning newscast.

We have corrected this error, and we profusely apologize to our readers and to Kealy.

A miscommunication in our office led to the story remaining on our social media and then airing on Moose FM. We take this mistake very seriously and will work with our team to improve communication. We also recently hired a News Director who will start the week of January 20. For the last six months, this position has been empty due to medical leave.

The News Director will compare audio/interview transcripts to ensure that any story we publish properly reflects the intent of the person we interview. This role also ensures that any posts we make on social media about a story are updated.

Even though we are currently short-staffed, this mistake shouldn’t have happened, and I apologize to MLA Kealy for this mistake.

As local residents who call Fort St. John and the North Peace home, we take this responsibility very seriously and want to be as transparent as possible.

If you have any concerns with the work we do, please contact me directly at 250-787-7100.
