FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) approved funding for multiple recreational projects throughout the Peace region during the board’s first meeting of the year.

During the January 9th regional board meeting, the directors approved several recommendations made by the Regional Parks Committee in a meeting on December 12th, 2024.

The directors approved a grant of $14,584 from the 2025 Recreational Trails Grant for Northland Trailblazers Snowmobile Club. The club will use the funds to assist maintenance of the Stewart Lake Trail, going towards town behind groomer upgrades.

The board also approved a grant of $10,000 for the Whiskey Jack Nordic Ski Club for the construction of a second outhouse. This financial support also comes from the 2025 Recreational Trails Grant, and is going towards the construction of a second outhouse.

The PRRD also voted to send a letter of support to BC Hydro as part of the Club’s application for a grant of up to $10,000 from the BC Hydro GO Fund. Grants from both the PRRD and BC Hydro will not cover the entire cost of the accessible outhouse, with the Club committing to covering the remainder of the cost.

Additionally, the board of directors authorized the renewal of the Recreation Sites and Trails BC Partnership Agreement. The agreement stands between the PRRD and the Province of British Columbia, and pertains to the management and maintenance of Sundance Lake Park for recreation and conservation activities.
