Women’s Resource Society empowers change with New Healing Place initiative 

The Fort St. John’s Women Resource Society has announced a new initiative in partnership with Northern Health for the Healing Place.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John’s Women Resource Society has announced a new initiative in partnership with Northern Health for the Healing Place.

Also included in the partnership is the North Peace Division of Family Practice. The non-profit is a community-based group of family physicians working together to achieve common healthcare goals throughout B.C.

In a January 8th press release, the society called the new program an “innovative initiative” and also said it’s the first of its kind in the province.

Resource Society Executive Director Amanda Trotter says the partnership will “drive social change” within the community.

Through the initiative, a health team including a Nurse, a Life Skills Worker, and a Mental Health and Substance Abuse Clinician will provide a range of services at the Healing Place, located at 9912 96th Avenue in Fort St. John.

Some services will include blood spot testing, detox support, Vulnerability Assessment Tool assessments, education on topics like life skills and budgeting, and more.

Families with a gross income of $42,000 or less, with an allowance of $2,000 per child are eligible to take advantage of the program.

The Healing Place, open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. will allow walk-in hours as well from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday.

A guy who found his calling later in life, Edward Hitchins is a professional storyteller with a colourful and extensive history.

Beginning his journey into journalism in 2012 at Seneca College, Edward also graduated from Humber College with an Advanced Diploma in Print and Broadcast Journalism in 2018.  After time off from his career and venturing into other vocations, he started his career proper in 2022 in Campbell River, B.C.

Edward was attracted to the position of Indigenous Voices reporter with Energeticcity as a challenge.  Having not been around First Nations for the majority of his life, he hopes to learn about their culture through meaningful conversations while properly telling their stories. 

In a way, he hopes this position will allow both himself and Energeticcity to grow as a collective unit as his career moves forward and evolves into the next step.

He looks forward to growing both as a reporter and as a human being while being posted in Fort St. John.
