UPDATE: Chetwynd Hospital emergency department diversion extended

Northern Health has announced a diversion which began on Friday morning has been extended into the weekend at Chetwynd General Hospital.

Update (12:24 a.m., January 4th) this story has been updated to include the extension of the diversion which began on January 3rd.

CHETWYND, B.C. — Northern Health has announced a diversion which began on Friday morning has been extended into the weekend at Chetwynd General Hospital.

Originally slated to end on Saturday morning, January 4th at 8:00 a.m., the health authority announced on Facebook late evening on January 3rd the diversion will continue another 24 hours to Sunday, January 5th at the same time.

The diversion began on Friday morning at 6:00 a.m., due to “staffing challenges” at the hospital’s emergency department.

The first hospital diversion to affect Chetwynd – and the Peace region as a whole – so far in January, the announcement extends the hospitals’ second diversion this week.

Residents in need of life-threatening urgent care can call 911 for transportation to the nearest available facility.

Meanwhile, individuals with less urgent care needs can contact their primary care provider or call the NH Virtual Primary & Community Care Clinic at 1-844-645-7811.
