Site C reports slight decrease in October employment numbers
BC Hydro has released its employment statistics for the Site C project in October, showing a slight decrease.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — BC Hydro has released its employment statistics for the Site C project in October, showing a slight decrease.
According to the latest employment numbers released by BC Hydro, 2,379 workers were employed at the site in October.
This is a very slight decrease from 2,542 workers in September.

The company says as more milestones are completed, employment will continue to trend downward until the project is completed in 2025.
Of the total workers employed, 1,840 or 77 per cent were from British Columbia.
The company’s numbers also showed that 402 (24 per cent) of the workers on site are from the Peace River Regional District (PRRD).
1,691 workers were listed in the report as “construction and non-construction contractors.”

Another 688 workers, the vast majority being B.C. primary residents, were engineers and the project team.
There were also 120 people who identified themselves as Indigenous working on the site that month, another slight decrease from 127 workers in September.
262 women were working at Site C as construction and non-construction contractors. In September, that number was 282.
The number of apprentices employed on the project decreased from 134 in September 2024, to 112 in October.
BC Hydro says the number of apprentices varies depending on the type of work performed.
The reservoir’s filling was completed in early November, and the site’s generating units will become operational next year.
