CHETWYND, B.C. — Motorists are being warned to expect a prolonged snowstorm in the Pine Pass area over the coming days.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Highway 97 in the Pine Pass area near Chetwynd, saying light flurries on Wednesday, November 27th, will escalate to consistent snowfall by the evening.

That snowfall is expected to last until midday on Friday the 29th.

“Snowfall may be heavy at times on Thursday and Thursday night as the system moves across the central BC interior,” the warning reads. “Conditions are expected to improve Friday as the system moves eastward and away from BC.”

Snowfall amounts between 20 and 40 centimetres are expected across the area covered by the warning, although the agency says that forecast “may change as the event nears and confidence increases.”

The warning says rapidly accumulating snow and poor visibility could make travel difficult and lead to delays.
