FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Peace Seniors Connect and Care Society is seeking donations for its Secret Santa gifts.

According to Rita Schonewille from the Peace Seniors Connect and Care Society, there are over 300 seniors this year residing in Fort St. John, Taylor, Charlie Lake, and Prespatou.

“I think the excitement for the seniors to get something is always very rewarding,” says Schonewille.

The society is collecting gift cards, shopping items from a wishlist, or cash donations.

“Our wish lists are pretty much covered, but we are now basically in need of gift cards or cash donations to use towards topping off our gifts,” says Schonewille.

Schonewille says she can sympathize with seniors going through difficult financial situations and enjoys helping those in need.

“For me personally, it is helping our seniors, and with economic times right now, life is hard for a lot of them. They have a hard time making ends meet.

“I know from experience that a few have to decide whether they should pay rent or buy their medication for the month.”

The group was created in 2016 and became a non-profit society in 2020 to help bring some cheer to our local seniors, who may not have had any holiday visitors or gifts.

The deadline for donations is December 6th.

For more information, visit the society’s Facebook page or contact Rita Schonewille at 250 262 9154.
