FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Nearly 11 years after the death of 16-year-old Jonathan Bruce, his family says they’re still looking for answers as to what happened.

Bruce was dropped off at another local teenager’s home for a party on November 22nd, 2013. His grandmother, Judi Bruce, says he never came home that night.

“His body was discovered at the motocross track frozen [on November 24th],” Bruce explains.

“There was a lot of investigating done at the time but it appeared there was also a lot of fear about what had happened amongst the teen community.”

Bruce says her family has tried to keep Jonathan’s story circulating in the community, but it’s been difficult over the years.

Members of Jonathan’s family who maintain the “Justice for Jonathan” Facebook page have also spoken about the impacts his absence continues to have on their family, with posts describing family celebrations and holidays that feel hollow because of his empty chair.

“Justice for Jonathan” has also been present at community events, including past Canada Day parades, to maintain public interest in the investigation.

Bruce says she hopes Jonathan’s friends, now in their twenties with families of their own, think about what happened to him.

“The RCMP have not sent out any information for quite some time,” Bruce says. “They haven’t asked for information either.”

Anyone with information that could help investigators learn more about what happened to Jonathan Bruce can contact the Fort St. John RCMP detachment at 250-787-8140.
