PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) has rescued seven kittens from an abandoned home in northeast B.C.

According to BC SPCA senior officer Eileen Drever, one of their officers arrived at the home in Fort St. James and saw a broken window and glass over the deck.

“The officer could see garbage and objects strewn throughout the home through the broken window,” said Drever.

After approaching the house, the kittens jumped out of the window one by one onto the deck to greet the officer.

The kittens were said to be no more than nine weeks old and infested with fleas and worms.

All of the kittens were collected and transported to the North Cariboo Animal Centre in Prince George for care.

“After they were given flea medication, it took staff at the centre two hours to comb out all the dead fleas from their fur,” said Drever.

The kittens are now said to be playful, available for adoption and have been transported to the Tri-Cities animal centre located in Coquitlam.

“They eat ravenously and are very rambunctious,” says Drever.
