FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) has released a campfire safety reminder following a busy month putting out unattended campfires.

In a November 12th Facebook post, the NRRM encouraged residents and visitors of the region to exercise campfire safety, noting that the Northern Rockies Fire Rescue had to put out six unattended campfires during the month of October.

“These fires have caused extensive damage, burning deep into tree roots and requiring hundreds of firefighting hours and tens of thousands of gallons of water to extinguish,” The post stated.
