FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — BC Transit will update its ticket system to the Umo electronic fare system starting on December 1st, 2024.

The service says it will stop issuing paper ballots and instead offer more “convenient” payment options facilitated through the Umo platform that came to the Peace region in the spring.

Outside of Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, “legacy” tickets are also being phased out in Prince George, Quesnel, Kitimat, Terrace, Skeena, Prince Rupert, Port Edward, West Kootenay, Cranbrook, Pemberton Valley, Squamish and Nanaimo.

Transit users can download the Umo Mobile app or pick up a free reloadable card from a BC Transit vendor.

Ticket prices will remain unchanged, and both cash and the provincial government’s BC Bus Pass will still be accepted.

Any leftover “legacy” tickets will still be accepted until they’re all used up, and a new “token” system is being created for social wellness organizations that offer free or discounted fare products.
