FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation has shared the details of its Be an Angel Gala earlier this month.

The gala, celebrating its 30th anniversary, was held on Saturday, November 2nd, in the Ralph Pomeroy Ballroom at the Pomeroy Hotel in Fort St. John.

According to a news release from the foundation, the ballroom was decorated in blue and silver to represent the foundation.

“Many volunteers contributed their time and talent to transform the ballroom into a winter wonderland,” said the release.

Board Chair Desirae Jeannotte started the event by highlighting the achievements that can be done when people unite on common goals.

“The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation’s Be an Angel Gala once again provided the perfect setting for the North Peace community to kick off the holiday season.”

Jeannotte said the foundation plays an important role in raising funds that benefit the hospital’s patients and residents of the Peace Villa Residential Care Facility.

The gala raised $162,000, and organizers are optimistic that the 2024 Be an Angel Campaign will reach its $350,000 goal.

The “I Remember Quilt” auction broke its record for the third year in a row for a bid of $25,000.

The quilt was first auctioned off at the 2007 Be an Angel Gala and has since raised over $118,000 in support of local healthcare.

“The quilt hangs in the corridor outside the FSJ Hospital Foundation office throughout the year.”

Another highlight was when the foundation gave Karen Sutherland this year’s Janet Taylor Award.

“Guests then enjoyed a heartfelt video of Karen which showcased her many moments of volunteering over the years.”

“As the evening came to a close, the spirit of community and its generosity shone brightly at the Be an Angel Gala. The remarkable contributions from guests and sponsors not only celebrated the FSJ Hospital Foundation’s 30 years of enhancing healthcare but also reinforced the bond that unites the community,” the release concluded.

In late October, the City of Fort St. John proclaimed November as Be an Angel month to support the foundation.
