FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – BC Hydro has completed the filling of the Site C reservoir after 11 weeks.

On November 7th, BC Hydro announced that the filling of the Site C Reservoir has concluded, with water levels stabilising after a 43-metre depth increase.

While the utility continues daily slope stability instrumentation monitoring, the public is strongly urged to avoid the area for at least the next year.

This is due to several hazards surrounding the reservoir’s creation, including floating vegetation debris, ice, and land stabilizations surrounding the reservoir banks.

With the reservoir full, the first energy generating unit at Site C has been turned on and is now in operation. Work continues on the second generating unit, and BC Hydro has stated the project remains on track to have all six of the generating units in service by the fall of 2025.
