FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Local artist Sandy Troudt joined Moose FM’s Dub Craig on the most recent This Week in the Peace episode to discuss her new exhibit at the Peace North Gallery.

Troudt and her fellow artist Mary Parslow’s ‘Portals + Windows’ exhibit opens today at 7 p.m. and will run until November 30th.

Both herself and Parslow are well-known in the community and prominent Flying Colours Artists’ Association members.

Troudt, who represents the ‘Portals’ part of the exhibit, explained her experience as an artist in the interview, describing it as something she has always been interested in.

She was able to do more art after retiring from her 32-year career as an elementary school teacher.

“As soon as I retired, I got to decide this would be my encore career,” Troudt explained.

Troudt loves to experiment with her artwork and says this exhibition represents a creative side of her work.

“I love learning, and I love experimenting, and I just can’t seem to stick to one thing,” said Troudt.

The artist went on to illustrate that her goal as an artist has been to combine technique and processes in a way that is original and perhaps never done before.

In Peace Gallery North’s monthly newsletter in October, Troudt described Portals as various types of literal and metaphoric doorways.

“For the sake of this exhibition, ‘portal’ refers to an imaginary opening in the cosmos that creates an entryway into a ritualistic passageway where ancient man studied and mapped the skies 5,000 to 2,500 years ago,” said Troudt in the newsletter.

The gallery is located at 10015, 100 Avenue in Fort St. John.
