B.C. Health Officer recommends flu and COVID-19 vaccinations

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Office of the Provincial Health Officer is encouraging British Columbians to book their vaccinations to inoculate against the latest strains of influenza and variants of COVID-19.
“This is the time of year when we see increases in viral respiratory illnesses in B.C., including influenza and COVID-19, so it is particularly important to remember healthy habits we can all follow to protect ourselves, our loved ones and our communities,” Provincial health officer for B.C. Dr. Bonnie Henry said in a press release.
Individuals six months and older are encouraged to stay up to date on influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations, as well as exercise healthy habits to avoid illness as the weather changes.
Individuals who are identified as members of ‘priority populations’ are those most at risk for severe illness and complications, and vaccinations ensure their safety as well as the rest of the population. Such populations include seniors 65 years of age and older, long-term care facility residents, health-care workers and people with chronic health conditions.
“By getting immunized for both influenza and COVID-19, we are not only protecting ourselves, but also those around us,” Dr. Henry said.
Health Canada approved vaccinations are available across the province in participating pharmacies, health-authority clinics and some primary-care providers’ offices, and residents can receive them free of charge.
